Issue One’s Chief of Policy, Programs and Strategy Meredith McGehee has been working on government ethics-related issues in Washington for decades. Roll Call just named McGehee one of the Rising Stars of Advocacy on Capitol Hill.

The paper defines the Rising Stars as “people who now wield power and influence in a Washington that has been turned upside down by the presidency of Donald Trump.”

For her part, “I was doing ethics before ethics was cool,” McGehee told Roll Call in an interview. With her dedication and focus on ethics issues in Washington, Meredith testified in the 1990s about the need for an independent entity to investigate matters of ethics related to members of Congress and their staff. That proposed eventually became the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE). McGehee is also an expert on the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) and leads recruitment and deployment of Issue One’s ReFormers Caucus, a consortium of more than 180 former elected officials who push for new campaign finance and ethics policies on Capitol Hill and the White House.

Recently, she consulted with the offices of Reps. Derek Kilmer (D-WA) and Jim Renacci (R-OH) on the re-introduction of the bipartisan Restoring Integrity to America’s Elections Act, which seeks to overhaul the Federal Election Commission. The bill was introduced with 12 cosponsors — six Republicans, and six Democrats.
Congratulations, Meredith!
