Issue One’s Mission for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Our mission at Issue One is to repair our broken political system by making it possible for all people in the United States to better participate in our democracy. That is why we unite Republicans, Democrats, and independents to push for meaningful political reforms and build a democracy that works for everyone. We work every day towards building a government where individual voices are heard above moneyed interests and where inequities in who has power are reduced. Our country’s broken political system stands in the way of progress on the other issues we care about.
Why Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Matter to Issue One
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are important to our mission. A diversity of experiences strengthens our work by challenging our assumptions and bringing more voices and greater participation. Our goal of creating meaningful political reforms requires the perspectives of all Americans, not just those who are well represented in power. Through our work, we support equal access to tools that build a strong democracy, extending power to all people, not just moneyed interests. Cultivating inclusion at Issue One empowers our team to realize our mission and fully participate in its achievement.
Our Commitment
Issue One is dedicated to the constitutionally enshrined and uniquely American ideals of self-government, liberty, and equality. All the work we do is in pursuit of a more perfect union — so that all Americans can participate and be heard in our system of government. These ideals must be renewed and strengthened each generation.
Our commitment to diversity is a recognition that our unique characteristics, when combined, help us better achieve our mission. These characteristics include ability/disability, age, ethnicity, gender expression, national origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.
We are committed to diversity in our staff, board, consultants, spokespeople, and our partners, making it possible to envision and achieve more creative and nuanced solutions to fix our broken political system. Diversity drives us to be creative in our work and our strategies for achieving our goals.
Our pragmatic approach aligns our policies, practices, and resources so that all our employees can fully participate in achieving our goals and so that all Americans can fully participate in our democracy.
We foster an inclusive culture where individuals are respected and valued for their unique perspectives, experiences, and identities.
