Issue One is sad to note the passing of ReFormers Caucus member Congressman John R. Miller from Seattle, Washington. Congressman Miller brought his political knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm from four terms in the House of Representatives to our ReFormers Caucus, a group of 185 former members of Congress from both parties working to fix democracy.
Rep. Miller represented Washington’s 1st District from 1985 to 1993 and was a leader in the U.S. effort to promote human rights around the world, particularly in the Soviet Union, China, and South Africa and also worked to improve the lives of Soviet Jews. Following his time in Congress, Miller was Ambassador At-Large and director for the U.S. State Department’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, where he worked to increase public awareness of modern-day slavery. This was followed by teaching roles at George Washington University, Yale University and as a distinguished scholar of international affairs at the Discovery Institute. His most recent accomplishment was the publication of his novel, The Man Who Could Be King, in July of this year.
We at Issue One are grateful for Congressman Miller’s service with our ReFormers Caucus and for all of his work to this country and around the world during his career. Our thoughts are with Rep. Miller’s family and friends as we remember his contributions to the public good.
