Reps. Brian Mast (R-FL) and Anthony Brindisi (D-NY) co-sponsor the Honest Ads Act

This week, Reps. Brian Mast (R-FL) and Anthony Brindisi (D-NY) joined in co-sponsoring the Honest Ads Act, the best first step to protect U.S. elections from foreign interference. This brings the total number of sponsors in the House and Senate to 37 members of Congress — 18 Republicans and 19 Democrats.

“The need to protect our elections against foreign interference transcends partisan politics, and it’s great to see the growing bipartisan support for this bill,” said Issue One Executive Director Meredith McGehee. “While there is no silver bullet to deterring foreign attacks on our elections, the Honest Ads Act is a critical part of a package of bills that must be passed. Congress also needs to help all 50 states and more than 10,000 election officials further secure their election systems against foreign attacks.”

In July, Issue One launched the “Don’t Mess With US” project to stop foreign interference in our elections. The Honest Ads Act is part of a package of bipartisan bills that should be considered to prevent foreign disruption in our political system.
