Swamp Stories Episode 13: Hidden Trillions

So if a normal year of government spending justifies a multi-billion dollar lobbying industry, you can just imagine what happened when the CARES Act came into focus. It was a lobbyist’s dream buffet.

In March, lawmakers passed the CARES Act to assist with the crippling effects of COVID-19 on America’s economy.

While this massive government stimulus package was an important step in helping Americans during a public health crisis, it also opened the floodgates to a lobbying frenzy by big businesses who were looking to get a piece of the pie and attempting to influence where relief funds should go.

In episode 13, Weston takes a look at those efforts to shape the CARES Act, and the critical importance of ensuring that these kinds of programs are transparent and that taxpayers can see where their money is going.

Listeners will hear from:

  • Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN)
  • Danielle Brian, Executive Director of Project on Government Oversight

Check out this week’s episode, “Hidden Trillions,” to get a better understanding of why transparency is so crucial — especially when the government spends big like it did with the CARES Act.
