In response to the unsealing of a search warrant regarding the FBI’s raid of a Fulton County, Georgia warehouse with ballots from the 2020 election, Issue One Policy Director Michael McNulty issued the following statement:

“The Fulton County election offices warrant appears to rely largely on debunked conspiracy theories dating back to the 2020 elections. That raises serious questions about probable cause for the investigation and why such an intrusive action is being taken more than five years after the election was certified. But this is what happens when law enforcement is weaponized by the executive branch and Congress refuses to stop it.

In 2020, the courts rejected case after case challenging the election results in battleground states because they were meritless. Ultimately, justice prevailed and Congress certified the election.

This raid fits a growing pattern by the administration to exert executive control over elections, despite the Constitution’s clear assignment of election administration to the states and Congress. Targeting election officials and records years later risks undermining confidence in the process for future elections. If allowed to stand, this could set a troubling precedent that would chill election administration nationwide and invite more executive interference.

It is time for every member of Congress to put their country before their party. Every member swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution. Now is the time to live up to that oath.”
