In response to Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) expressing support for congressional action that would grant Congress authority to appoint the heads of major legislative branch agencies, including the Library of Congress and Government Accountability Office, Issue One Vice President of Advocacy Alix Fraser issued the following statement:

“Congress has an opportunity right now to reclaim its authority and stop this dangerous erosion of checks and balances. The Trump administration’s attempt to exert authority over agencies that fall within Congress’ domain — like the Library of Congress — is just another effort by this president to unconstitutionally consolidate power. That should concern every American. Congressional oversight is a cornerstone of our democratic system, and we thank Sen. Collins for speaking up and urge her to work with her colleagues to ensure that each branch of government operates within its constitutional boundaries.”
