Issue One applauds the Supreme Court’s rejection of the so-called independent state legislature theory

In response to today’s Supreme Court ruling in the case of Moore v. Harper, Issue One released the following statement from Founder and CEO Nick Penniman:

“The so-called independent state legislature theory is dangerous, anti-democratic, and would have undermined our nation’s free and fair elections. The justices were correct to side with countless legal experts from across the political spectrum who argued that adopting this radical approach would embolden bad actors and uproot our democratic system of checks and balances.

“Today’s decision is a victory for our constitutional form of government. Together with Republicans, Democrats, and independents, we will continue our efforts to safeguard U.S. elections and protect our democracy from those who seek to subvert the will of the people.”
