IT’S TRUE: Fox News admits it lied to the American people about the election, settlement says

In response to today’s settlement announcement between Dominion Voting Systems and Fox News regarding the outlet’s role in the spread of disinformation following the 2020 election, Issue One released the following statement from Founder and CEO Nick Penniman:

“The press is the Fourth Estate of our democracy for a reason. America thrives when facts and common truths flourish. When Fox knowingly aired and amplified disinformation about the result of the free and fair 2020 election, it lent its megaphone to bad actors working to undermine our democracy and overturn the will of the voters. The harm Fox has caused by intentionally helping undermine trust in our elections will take decades to undo.

“Today’s settlement is a victory for the American people. It’s a victory for journalism. It’s a victory for truth. Media companies who show a reckless disregard for the facts contribute to dangerous information environments that can result in the kind of violence and mayhem we witnessed on January 6th. As was made clear today, they will face consequences and be held accountable for their reckless actions.”
