Given the news that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race, members of Issue One’s Faces of Democracy campaign issued the following statement:
“As public servants dedicated to ensuring that our elections remain free and fair, Americans can be confident that election officials are prepared to adapt to the news that the presumptive Democratic candidate for president has withdrawn from the race and will no longer be running for office.
States have not yet printed ballots for the general election, and state laws across the country provide for the candidate chosen by the Democratic Party at or before the convention to appear on ballots this November. This is irrespective of whether or not that nominee is the same individual as the party’s presumptive nominee based on the results of the party’s presidential preference primaries.
Our elections are safe and secure because they are run by trained election officials at the state, county, and local level. There are rules and laws in place across every jurisdiction governing how elections are administered. Despite this extraordinary moment in our nation’s history, one thing remains certain: experienced election officials and staff across the country are working hard to ensure that our elections remain secure, and fair, and that every eligible ballot will be counted accurately.”
Issue One’s Faces of Democracy campaign represents a full spectrum of bipartisan and nonpartisan election officials from across the country. From secretaries of state to county clerks, registrars, and poll workers, it is the most prominent group advocating on behalf of election workers in America.
