In advance of the Senate’s key vote today on the Freedom to Vote Act, the National Council on Election Integrity issued the following statement:
“Now more than ever, we need to protect every American’s freedom to vote and rebuild trust in the integrity of our elections. The Freedom to Vote Act is a good-faith compromise led by Senator Joe Manchin that includes common sense proposals supported by voters across the political spectrum — such as early voting, vote by mail, improved cybersecurity, and voter ID requirements.
“This proposal is an important part of the conversation and deserves a robust debate in the Senate. We applaud Senator Manchin’s effort to seek input from his Republican colleagues.
“This is a historic opportunity for both political parties to come together to strengthen our democracy. Inaction is not an option.”
