Following the passing of Congressman Lee Hamilton (D-IN), a patriot and lifetime public servant, ReFormers Caucus co-chair and fellow Indiana statesman Ambassador Tim Roemer issued the following statement:

“Lee Hamilton was a titan in foreign policy circles, a giant in the House of Representatives, and a treasured and trusted champion of the people of Indiana. More personally, he was a dear friend to me and an invaluable mentor in my 40-year public service career.

“He provided great insight and counsel to me as a Congressman, Ambassador, and 9/11 Commission member. He was a close friend, someone fun to talk to about sports, and he always relished a funny or interesting political story.

“So many people, both Democrats and Republicans, relied on his expert advice on complicated geopolitical issues and always took him at his word. At Issue One, he was extremely helpful to our cross-partisan and grassroots efforts to strengthen democracy and communicate with everyday citizens.

“He devoted much of his post-Congress life to helping students at Indiana University better understand the critical role Congress plays in helping America pass laws and check the executive branch when needed.

“We all constantly learned from Lee and loved his leadership, integrity, and passion. He loved politics and we loved him.”

Congressman Lee Hamilton was a member of Issue One’s ReFormers Caucus and National Council on Election Integrity. He was 94 years old.
