In response to Politico reporting of the new Democratic secret-money group Future Majority, Issue One CEO Nick Penniman released the following statement:
“The Democratic party has a choice this election cycle: Will they try and win control of the White House and Congress by embracing dark money? Or will they walk their own talk and operate with the same transparency for which they are legislatively advocating? Otherwise, we are living in an era in which the means justify the ends and that is an era the public wants no part of.”
As Issue One and the Wall Street Journal previously reported, liberal dark money groups outspent their conservative counterparts in the 2018 election cycle, the first time since Citizens United.
Additionally, super PACs and dark money groups also combined to outspend candidates in a record number of races in 2018.
