Cory Combs is an experienced communications professional and Issue One’s director of media relations, where he works to advance Issue One’s mission to strengthen and protect U.S. democracy and ensure that organizational experts are in the press and part of the national discourse.
In this role, Cory works with trusted spokespeople, former members of Congress, Cabinet secretaries, and military leaders to craft compelling and persuasive messages that align with the organization’s strategic objectives. He has led strategic media initiatives in support of Issue One’s goals, including public education campaigns in partnership with local election officials to increase voter knowledge about our elections, efforts to build a healthier online information environment, and the successful bipartisan update of the Electoral Count Act in Congress to ensure the peaceful transfer of power following future presidential elections.
Before joining Issue One, Cory worked with Sunshine Sachs Morgan & Lylis, an independent full-service communications and narrative consulting firm, where he worked with clients across the nonprofit, lifestyle, and social impact landscape, including the nation’s leading HIV/AIDS advocacy organizations, Instagram, and the National 4-H Foundation.
Earlier in his career, Cory represented thousands of former NFL players who sued the League over concussion-related injuries, which resulted in an historic settlement valued at over $1 billion.
Cory earned his bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and Political Science from James Madison University. Outside of work, Cory loves photography, running, and exploring Virginia’s wine country.
