Joshua Manuel Bonet

Senior Legislative Associate

Joshua Bonet is a dedicated senior legislative associate at Issue One, specializing on congressional modernization, ethics, and elections. With nearly four years of experience spanning from government and civil society, Joshua has developed a wealth of knowledge in the democracy reform space. He has co-authored reports on the importance of fair pay for congressional staffers, including organizing an event featuring Reps. Derek Kilmer (D-WA) and William Timmons (R-SC), which was highlighted in Politico. Additionally, he co-authored an article for Democracy Journal with former Rep. Donna Edwards (D-MD), co-chair of Issue One’s bipartisan National Council on Election Integrity, applauding the bipartisan work spearheaded by the Subcommittee on Modernization in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Joshua’s expertise also extends to congressional ethics, where he led a bipartisan coalition of former elected officials from Issue One’s ReFormers Caucus in urging the U.S. Senate to pass the ETHICS Act. His advocacy includes written testimonies and thought pieces promoting bipartisan collaboration in Congress, banning insider trading, and tackling malign information for non-English speaking communities in the electoral process. His reputation for bridging gaps, fostering collaboration, and navigating the nuances of congressional advocacy is well-recognized.

At Issue One, Joshua continues to lead initiatives that promote representative government and a multicultural democracy. Outside of work, he remains active in civic engagement efforts to mobilize and educate voters in the U.S. (primarily Spanish speaking communities in the U.S.) and his native Puerto Rico.
