Lila Batcheller

Legislative Intern


Lila (she/her) joined Issue One in June 2025 as a Summer Legislative Intern. She is a rising fourth-year student at Stanford University, majoring in International Relations with a focus on International Security. She is especially interested in democratic resilience, civil-military relations, and the intersection of technology and national security. Lila is researching democratic consolidation and civil-military relations in Brazil as part of Stanford’s Fisher Family Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law Honors Program.

She has previously interned in the U.S. Senate, supported research on U.S.-China ideological competition, and enhanced her language skills in Portuguese through the U.S. State Department’s Critical Language Scholarship Program. She also serves on the executive committee of Stanford’s Democracy Day, which promotes civic engagement and public dialogue on campus, and is a fellow in the Intercollegiate Civil Disagreement Program, where she facilitates conversations across political and ideological differences.
