Mike Piel
Director of Philanthropy
Mike Piel is a politics junkie who left Colorado to pursue his passion in D.C. After nearly a decade in campaign politics and political consulting, deeply involved in the partisan battlefield, he saw the limits of purely partisan work, and chose to pursue a career dedicated to democracy reform. Why be part of the problem, when you can raise money to fix it?
He is driven by his core belief that a vote should be powerful, and that our elections should accurately reflect the voters. He has raised money to support ballot initiatives, fund community organizing, voter registration and voting rights, and more.
His career has taken him to organizations both large and small, including The National Committee for an Effective Congress, The Center for Election Science, and the New Organizing Institute. His fundraising background has included foundation relations, major individual donors, and small-dollar annual funds. Overall, he has helped raise more than $10 million for various political and nonpartisan causes.
Mike is passionate about the donor experience for those who invest in our work. Donors are partners, not piggy banks.
Mike is more than your average fundraiser; he’s also a political analyst and writer. He has had several op-eds published, including in The Hill, Tech Bullion, and the Richmond Times Dispatch.
