In response to the House passing a short-term reauthorization of the bipartisan Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA) as part of the continuing resolution to fund the federal government, Issue One’s Legislative Director Jamie Neikrie, released the following statement:
“CISA has been a cornerstone of our nation’s cybersecurity, enabling critical information sharing between federal agencies, state and local governments, and private businesses. Foreign adversaries and other malicious actors are intensifying their efforts to target American election systems, hospitals, financial institutions, agricultural networks, and energy grids. The need for continued and uninterrupted authority under CISA is now more urgent than ever.
“An extension for CISA in the CR is a good first step, but it is no substitute for long-term reauthorization. Were this vital law to lapse, it would weaken our collective defense against cyber threats, leaving state or local government entities and their partners in the private sector without the tools they need to identify and counter these threats. Congress must pass a long-term, clean reauthorization to ensure the continued protection of our nation’s critical cyber infrastructure.”
