In response to the recent news that the Senate cosponsors of the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) updated the bill’s language to address free speech concerns and that X Owner and member of President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration Elon Musk, the son of President-elect Trump Donald Trump Jr., Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and X CEO Linda Yaccarino tweeted support for this Congress to pass this much-needed legislation, Issue One’s Vice President of Technology Reform Alix Fraser issued the following statement:
“Social media companies have designed their platforms to be addictive and dangerous, putting their own profits above the safety and lives of America’s children. This is why a near universal majority of Americans across the political spectrum want online safeguards for kids and teens. The Kids Online Safety Act will go a long way toward addressing these harms. We are encouraged to see that conservative leaders, including many people close to President-elect Donald Trump and in his incoming administration, are listening to the public and telling congressional leadership to pass the Kids Online Safety Act before year’s end. Every day we wait to pass this important legislation will result in the corrosive power of social media killing or critically harming more young people. Our kids can’t wait any longer.”
