Following proposed changes to House rules that would significantly weaken the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE), Issue One Legislative Director Elise Wirkus released the following statement:

“The Office of Congressional Ethics is vital to ensuring that the public has confidence in the integrity of Congress, that members of Congress are held accountable, and that corruption is kept out of the halls of power. The proposal by incoming GOP House leadership to gut the OCE is a shameful and cynical move that must be vigorously opposed. Established in 2008 to restore public confidence and bring accountability to the House of Representatives, the OCE is an essential and nonpartisan body that must be strengthened, not destroyed.”
