Ashley Hildebrand
Vice President, Communications
Ashley Hildebrand is a strategic communications professional with more than 13 years of experience translating complex policy into compelling public narratives. As Vice President of Communications at Issue One, she leads the organization’s communications strategy in service of its mission to strengthen American democracy and reduce the corrupting influence of money in politics.
Ashley comes to Issue One having spent her career mastering the tough sell — building effective communications strategies around some of the most polarizing issues in American public life. She has secured placements in state, national, and international outlets including the Associated Press, The New York Times, Glamour, The Guardian, and NPR and has prepped spokespeople for TV appearances on MSNBC, Fox News, and TBS.
Her expertise is in a quirky niche of American politics – faith-based advocacy – where she created campaigns and communications strategies at the intersection of religion, democracy, and the corrupting influence of money in politics. At Catholics for Choice, she led the rapid-response strategy for the Dobbs decision at the Supreme Court and launched a multi-year investigation tracking millions of dollars spent on religious overreach in ballot initiatives. At the Friends Committee on National Legislation, Ashley built relationships between community leaders and members of Congress, including through op-ed placement on COVID relief, the Violence Against Women Act, and constitutional authority. She spent seven years at NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice and served as a lobbyist during the 2012-2014 push for comprehensive immigration reform. She also organized five of NETWORK’s iconic “Nuns on the Bus” tours, bringing a message of economic justice to communities across the country.
Ashley holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Saint Joseph’s University, where she also studied Sociology and Faith Justice Studies. She lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband and their rescue dog, Goldie. In her free time, she can usually be found working on a craft project, gardening on her roof, or scouring for vintage dining ware at the thrift store.
