Money continues to pour into the 2020 presidential race amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to new campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission this weekend.
Here are some of the most vital numbers to know from an Issue One analysis of these filings, which detail the money presidential candidates raised and spent in May. Election Day is currently roughly 19 weeks away.
$25 million: The total amount of money raised in May by President Donald Trump’s official campaign committee. That’s up from April, when Trump’s campaign raised $17 million. Trump’s campaign entered June with about $108 million in its coffers.
$37 million: The total amount raised in May by the campaign of Democrat Joe Biden. That’s down from April, when Biden’s campaign raised $44 million. Biden’s campaign entered June with about $82 million in its coffers.
$514 million: The total amount that President Donald Trump and Joe Biden’s campaigns have combined to raise through May 31 since the election began, with Trump’s campaign alone raising about $299 million and Biden’s campaign raising about $215 million.
$580,600: The total amount of money a single individual donor can currently give to Trump Victory, a joint fundraising committee that benefits Trump’s presidential campaign, the Republican National Committee, and Republican parties in 22 states.
$620,600: The total amount of money a single individual donor can currently give to the Biden Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee that benefits Biden’s presidential campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and Democratic parties in 26 states.
$145 million: The total amount that outside groups such as super PACs and dark money groups have spent in the 2020 presidential race. Of this sum, around $52 million was spent by outside groups active in the Democratic presidential primary. And since the beginning of April, outside groups focused on the presidential general election have spent roughly $65 million.
66%: Portion of general election spending by outside groups that has urged people to vote for Biden or against Trump — a total of $62 million. Outside groups aligned with Trump have combined to spend $31 million so far.
20: The number of outside groups — such as super PACs and dark money groups — that have spent at least $1 million in the 2020 presidential race. These 20 groups have combined to spend $134 million — roughly 92% of all spending by non-candidate groups in the 2020 presidential race.
