In response to Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, and the threats to democracy at home and abroad, the bipartisan National Council on Election Integrity issued the following statement:
“The world is watching as the people of Ukraine fight to defend their democracy against Vladimir Putin’s dark forces of tyranny. It is a stark and unambiguous reminder that the freedoms we cherish cannot be taken for granted, including here at home.
“The future of America’s experiment in self-governance is not guaranteed. Now more than ever, we must reject authoritarian impulses abroad and defeat anti-democratic movements on our own soil that seek to divide and subvert our elections.
“As President Biden prepares to deliver his first State of the Union address to the American people, we call on all of our leaders across the political spectrum to protect the will of the people and overcome anti-democratic advances within our own borders.
“Democracy everywhere is on the line. We stand with President Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine as they wage a decisive and brave battle to remain independent, sovereign, and free.”
