Isabel Sunderland is the Policy Lead for Technology Reform at Issue One, where she advances state and federal legislation at the intersection of children’s online safety, platform design, Section 230, data privacy, national security, and transparency to hold powerful social media and artificial intelligence companies accountable to American democracy.
She has been invited to advise Congress, the White House, the United Nations, and state governments on technology policy. Prior to joining Issue One, Isabel entered the space as a youth advocate for children’s online safety and has spoken to dozens of audiences and national media outlets about the need for greater accountability. She has worked with Design It For Us, a youth-led movement with hundreds of members worldwide advocating for safer and more responsible technology platforms. Previously, Isabel drove policy and advocacy campaigns with the Real Facebook Oversight Board, a global council of experts calling for independent, external oversight of Big Tech.
Isabel holds a B.A. in International Relations and Justice and Law from American University in Washington, D.C., where she focused on human rights law, mass atrocity prevention, counterterrorism, and international technology law.
