Top nonprofit advocate Meredith McGehee joins Issue One

meredith-mcgeheeIssue One is pleased to announce that leading ethics advocate Meredith McGehee will join Issue One as Chief of Policy, Programs and Strategy on October 3. McGehee will lead Issue One’s advocacy efforts to reinvigorate our democratic system. She will also expand the organization’s recruitment of former elected officials and business leaders. She will continue as a strategic adviser with the Campaign Legal Center.

McGehee has spent the last 11 years at the Campaign Legal Center, directing its legislative and media policy efforts and specializing in public interest advocacy campaigns. She has been named nine times by The Hill newspaper as one of the top nonprofit/grassroots lobbyists in Washington.

“During an era when government dysfunction has taken center stage in American politics, Issue One is pursuing a strategy to find common ground for solutions that restore public trust,” said McGehee.

“We couldn’t be happier that Meredith is bringing her wisdom and Washington know-how to our vital mission,” said Issue One Executive Director Nick Penniman. “Issue One is increasing our capacity at the moment when there is unprecedented public support for bold changes in how our government functions.”

McGehee is one of the nation’s foremost experts on ethics in politics and is sought out frequently for her insights on lobbying, money in politics and media policy. She has run her own strategic advisory organization, McGehee Strategies, for 14 years. She previously served as president of the Alliance for Better Campaigns and also consulted for the League of Women Voters, Common Cause, the International Aids Vaccine Initiative, among others. McGehee is a graduate of Pomona College.
