Today, in response to the Senate reintroduction of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, Issue One’s Founder and CEO Nick Penniman called on Congress to honor the legacy of the civil rights leader by restoring, updating, and strengthening the Voting Rights Act:

“The freedom to vote is a sacred pillar of democracy that empowers individual citizens to shape our future and ensures that the voice of every eligible voter is heard. Since 1965, Congress has reauthorized the Voting Rights Act on five separate occasions with near unanimous support, and as our country prepares to vote in the 2024 elections, Republicans and Democrats in Congress should work together to honor the legacy and lasting impact of John Lewis by passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.”
